Baptist World Alliance
Each year during the Christmas season we receive a World Missions Offering. Churchnet promotes this offering to support the work of the Baptist World Alliance and Baptist World Aid. The Baptist World Alliance® is a fellowship of 228 conventions and unions in 121 countries and territories comprising 42 million members in 177,000 churches. During the coming years, we are committed to 1) Promoting worship, fellowship and unity, 2) Nurturing the passion for mission and evangelism, 3) Responding to human need through relief and sustainable community development, 4) Defending human rights and justice, and 5) Promoting relevant theological reflection. The BWA unites Baptists worldwide, leads in evangelism, responds to people in need and defends human rights.
Baptist World Aid
BWAid is the relief and development arm of the Baptist World Alliance. BWAid was formed to provide aid following World War I. Over the years it has provided relief and development aid, training and networking. From its beginning BWAid relief has been for all who are in need, regardless of race or religion. BWAid has been collecting information on needs around the world, sharing these concerns with its member bodies and others, trying to build a collaborative response to meet the needs, and encouraging Baptists and others to give to the BWA so that in His name we might care.
The Baptist World Alliance provides disaster relief around the world. Baptist World Aid responds to emergency situations where unusual circumstances disrupt or destroy community life – famine, earthquakes, hurricanes, cyclones, tornadoes, fire, floods, volcanic eruptions, civil strife or war. Since Baptist World Alliance members now have a presence in more than 100 different countries, we have personnel in many areas where disasters occur. It is the local Baptist communities who are on the scene and ministering to their neighbors in times of crisis. They know the situations and the needs. When BWAid receives a request to assist from a member body, it is the Emergency Response Fund that allows us to make an initial response to the crisis.
Your gifts to Churchnet’s World Mission Offering will help Baptists respond to these needs as we build a collaborative response around the world.
